Skid ramps Constructions & Installations

The skid ramp is basically the old fashioned concrete ramp. However, in areas where the Department of Primary Industries (former NSW Fisheries) require little change to the foreshore, skid ramps are approved over concrete boat ramps. Our Skid Ramps are always built in Turpentine due to the timbers natural resistance to the Marine Borer and wet rot. Skids not constructed in Turpentine will fail within in around a 12 month period. We always use either hot dipped galvanised or 316 Marine Grade Stainless Steel fixings to make sure your new skid ramp will last.

Also Supplied:

  • Slip Rails:

Slip Rails can be added to your skid ramp or you can have slip rails as a stand alone structure. Slip rails to get your vessel in and out of the water and into your boatshed at any tide.

  • Cradles:

We can build a cradle to suit your vessel in hot dipped galvanized steel or in hardwood. The cradle can be altered at a later date to suit a new vessel if you update your vessel or get something a little larger. All cradles on a slip rail have cast steel wheels with greaseable axels. A range of electric winches and hand winches are available to suite any application depending on the size and weight of your vessel.

  • Winches:

We have a large range of winches that we can install for you. Each winch is based on the vessel weight and the incline of the ramp into the boatshed. We can also supply a remote control to your winch to make getting your boat in and out of the boatshed a snap, even without getting your feet wet!

  • Davits:

Davits are a great way of getting your tinnie or jet ski out of the water and out of the way. We can supply and install a 300kg Davit or the heavier 500kg Davit. Davit size is based on weight of vessel or jet ski.

Standard Skid ramp features include:

  • All Our Skid Ramps are built by Bridge & Wharf Carpentry Tradesmen to Australian Standards.
  • Skid Ramps are built to Waterways Authority Regulations.
  • We build our Skid Ramps with Turpentine Timber to make sure your Skid Ramp will last.

  • Our Skid Ramps are constructed with heavy duty timber section sizes to take the weight of your vessel.

Wharf Constructions & Installations

All our wharves are built with Australian Hardwood from a managed hardwood plantation. This means that the timber installed is not taken from the national forests.

1. Lugarno Marina use a high Stress Grade Hardwood in all our waterfront applications. Using a hardwood with a high Stress Grade results in a longer lasting structure where as a Lower Class hardwood with a Low Stress Grade will end in the timber being inferior and with less longevity in the marine environment. We also incorporate the use of Malthoid in our structures which results in less dry rot at the decking to girder connection.

2. Our decking is dressed with pencil rounds. This means that it has been shaped by a special dressing machine that gives it a sanded look and feel. The machine also puts rounded edges on the deck boards. We are the only Contractor that installs dressed deck. Timber that is not dressed is Rough Sawn. Rough Sawn deck has ridges and as the name suggests has a rough feel. Rough sawn timber has a poor visual quality but worst of all it puts splinters into your feet!

Jetty & Sea Stairs

"Traditionally, Sea Stairs are suitable for areas that receive heavy wash where a ramp and pontoon application is not suitable. However, in recent years, we have seen the reemergence of Sea Stairs where Council length constraints do not allow over length structures to obtain the correct depth of water for a pontoon.

Our Sea Stairs are always built in Turpentine due to the timbers natural resistance to the Marine Borer and wet rot. Stairs not constructed in Turpentine will fail within in around a 12 month period.

Our Jetties are constructed of Australian Hardwood from a managed hardwood plantation. This means that the timber installed in our jetties not taken from the national forests."

Pontoon Constructions, Installations & Repairs

Our pontoons have been approved for installation on Sydney Harbour. This stringent test of our pontoons included a full stability study on the pontoon to meet the Australian Standard in Safety. Only a couple of Companies have met this standard and it is a benchmark in the industry (Australian Standard AS 3962-1991).

"We build our pontoons in our Factory at Mortdale. We are one of the only companies who do not buy their pontoons in from another manufacturer. We are the One Stop Shop."
